"The native guides you use are super, know the land, and contributed 100% to my success. After my bear I'm coming back for moose."

Alaska Hunting Trips

How cold is it on average during fall Alaska hunting trips? From about 25 above to 70 above.

How cold is it on average during late fall/early winter caribou hunting trips? Average about zero.

How cold is it on average during winter wolf/wolverine/lynx hunting trips? Average 15 below.

How cold are the average spring bear hunting trips? Average about 20 above.

Are there age limits for Alaska hunting trips? It depends on your physical condition and which hunt you are doing.

Which Alaska hunting trips are the most difficult? Moose is probably the most demanding.

Do I need to be in good shape for your bear hunting or moose hunting trips? It definitely adds to your chances of success. A lot of our movement throughout our hunting trips is by ATV locating game but the stalks are all on foot. A better way to put it is that your chances are good if you are not in BAD shape.

What kind of ATV's do you use on your Alaska hunting trips? Typically Honda 4-wheelers and Polaris snowmobiles.

Will I stay in your hunting lodge every night? Certainly not, we have numerous comfortable spike camps in remote areas of the country, which we stay at throughout Alaska hunting trips. We do, however, normally come back to the hunting lodge every 3-5 days for showers, etc., and to get together with other hunters and Alaska hunting guides.

Will I eat any freeze-dried meals at any time throughout one of your Alaska hunting trips? We never even have any !!! Austin's Alaska Adventures prides ourselves on our meals whether you are hunting, fishing or dog mushing. We eat nutritious meals, fresh meat, fish and poultry. The only thing you might miss is salad in a spike camp.

Bear Hunting

For late fall/winter Alaska hunting trips, do I need arctic gear? No, just normal winter hunting gear will suffice. We provide arctic-style parkas, overalls, mitts, boots etc. You do need your own warm hat with ear flaps or better yet a fur hat like the LL Bean "Trooper" or "Mad-bomber".

I have a favorite spotting scope. Should I bring it? Yes, even though we have ours.

Do I need binoculars for your Alaska hunting trips? Positively, the hunters often spot their own game. A very large amount of time is spent glassing on all of our Alaska hunting trips.

If my family or business needs to get ahold of me during one of your Alaska hunting trips, how difficult will it be? All of our camps stay in touch via VHF radio. Our hunting lodge at Golsovia and our camp at Klikitarik also have radio-telephones. Our office/home in St. Michael has 24/hr phones-answering machines.

I'm on a 10-day bear hunting trip and I connect on the 3rd day. The next day I assist my hunting guide in preparing the hide/skull for shipment. Am I required to leave or can I hang around? Most hunters prefer to leave when their trophy is ready. Since we don't overbook any of our Alaska hunting trips it is not a matter of us kicking you out because someone else is waiting, but the other hunters in the field appreciate an extra hunting guide to help them fill out
